Gender Reveal Dinner

The day after my ultrasound
we had a gender reveal dinner with both of our parents
It would have been fun to have a full party with all our family and friends
but Nathan and I are so busy
We don't have a free weekend till November
and even then we only have 2 free weekends in November
Our friend Katie graciously agreed to make a few cupcakes
I would have made them myself
but
for some reason I have never made cupcakes
or I can't remember a time that I have made cupcakes before
so I didn't want my first batch to be for such an important occasion
plus I don't even own a cupcake pan
It was so hard not to tell anyone on Wednesday before the dinner
I probably had about 5 different people just text me about the gender
I seriously got nothing done that day because I kept thinking about how excited I was to tell our parents
Luckily 6:30 came faster than I thought it would
and I was soon at the restaurant
we met halfway in Temecula
and silly husband got lost on his way from work
Somehow Nathan and I both wore blue shirts to dinner
so I don't know if our parents were were surprised
Once we placed our order we pulled out the cupcakes
holy pictures
both grandmas wanted to get pictures of the frosted cupcakes
and pictures of Nathan and I with the cupcakes
finally we got everyone in their seats
We made our parents close their eyes
while I placed the cupcakes in front of them
I didn't want them to look at the cupcakes for too long before biting into them
Finally it was time and we let our parents open their eyes and take a bite
The grandmas said awww blue
while the grandpa said "It's green"
So I guess the baby is gonna be color blind?
Baby also received his first ornament
the pink shoe has to be returned now that it's a boy
This baby is going to be the 1st grandson for Nathans parents
It will be the 5th grandson for my parents
My mom was hoping for a girl
Both grandparents are excited to have a grandchild in the same state let alone only an hour away
After the gender was announced
more pictures were taken
I am very seriously considering no grandparents in the labor room
they can be in the waiting room
Maybe I will have a rule that there is only one camera allowed in the room
but definitely not 3 cameras all going at the same time
it was overwhelming
Plus I don't want any photos that show my legs in stirrups
and I especially don't want any crotch shots
grossness
In fact if there is a picture of me during labor it better only be from the waist up
So I am still mulling over this grandparents in the labor room with us

The rest of the dinner went well and we told the rest of our family and friends later that night
sorry if it was kinda late
we couldn't wait any longer

I am interested to hear other mother thoughts:
Did you do a special gender reveal? How did it go?
Did you have other people besides your partner in the labor room with you?
What were your thoughts on photographs during labor and delivery?

The Ultrasound Experience

This is mainly for my own benefit
 so if it's too wordy
just enjoy the pictures
but ultrasound pictures are kinda weird in my opinion
so enjoy if you think they are cute
I think the whole thing is unreal
On September 25th at 8:45 at night I had my ultrasound appointment
For the appointment
I had to drink 32 oz of water
I drank 40 oz
an hour and a half before my appointment
and I couldn't empty my bladder
needless to say I was SO uncomfortable
I was doing the "potty dance" in the lobby waiting for my appointment to start
We were SO excited for this appointment
Nathan hadn't seen the baby since my first ultrasound back in July
My heart fluttered when the baby came up on the screen
And I was relieved to see and learn that the heartbeat was normal
since this ultrasound was the full anatomy of baby
the tech would spend a few minutes going over various body parts
about 15 minutes into the appointment
the tech announced that she was gonna scan the umbilical cord and pelvic area
It took me a moment to realize that meant the gender too
when the nurse started to label the legs
 there was a third limb
and I realized a split second before she typed boy on the screen
that I am going to have a son
I knew that this was the little boy that I have had multiple dreams about
It wasn't really a surprise that I am having a boy
as I said before Nathan and I just seemed to know it was a boy
and it was so natural to start calling baby 'him' throughout the rest of the appointment
I am sure tons of parents feel the same way about one sex and the baby ends up being another
But the weeks leading up to my ultrasound I found myself looking at boy clothes
The Saturday before my ultrasound I had a dream about my ultrasound and that the baby was a boy
SO needless to say we feel that this little guy is meant for our family
we feel that he has been waiting patiently for the right time to join our family
Halfway through the ultrasound the tech let me use the restroom
I have never been so grateful to pee
ridiculous I know
but I was uncomfortable
I guess I should get used to being uncomfortable I hear that's what the last few months will be like
The whole ultrasound experience was unreal
I would feel the baby move and watch the movement on the screen
10 little fingers and toes wiggled around
and we could see him move his little tongue
His foot measures 2.93 cm

so tiny
It is weird to think that there is a person growing inside of me
That I have another persons bones inside me
I technically have two heartbeats
I just hope that my baby continues to grow and be healthy
I am anxious for my next appointment where my doctor goes over the results of my blood test and the ultrasound
Nathan and I ended the night with a celebratory dinner at Chilies
since it was one of the non fast food restaurants open past 10pm
We spent most of our dinner awing at the ultrasound pictures
we are so happy and excited for our little one to come
we want to play with him right now
It'f going to be a long 20 weeks
Oh yeah I am 20 weeks along
which means I am halfway done if baby shows up on his due date

but I think he is going to be late

Boy or Girl???

Nathan and I find out the gender of the baby late tonight. We are so excited. I could pee my pants. But unfortunately I have to have a full bladder for the ultrasound, so I can't pee my pants. We think it's a boy. But we will be happy either way. Although I don't think our bank account would be happy if it's a girl. We tell our parents the gender tomorrow night so look for an announcement Thursday morning. SO EXCITED!!!!

What do you think it is???

Also I don't look 18 weeks pregnant in that photo
